Skid steer grading ground on a Billow's job
Excavation

Dig it. Move it. Grade it.

Site work with our own machines: digging, trenching, root and stump removal, grading and backfill, so the ground is ready for the next step. PA 811 is called before every dig.

When you need it

What we dig.

Graded ground ready for the next trade

Building and driveway prep

Topsoil stripped and set aside, cut and fill for the pad and the drive, ready for your builder.

Skid steer working a cleared site

Trenches and drain lines

Trenches for drain pipe and downspout lines, then backfilled and compacted.

Stumps and roots cleared from a lot

Roots and stumps dug out

Root balls and stumps pulled where grinding is not enough, like under a new patio, driveway or footer.

How we do it

How an excavation job goes.

  1. Lot ready for site work
    01

    Walk and mark

We walk the site with you, mark what stays, and place the PA 811 call so buried lines are marked before we dig.

  2. Billow's excavator on a job
    02

    Dig

Excavator or skid steer, sized to the job and the access.

  3. Grading spoil on site
    03

    Move the dirt

Spoil is spread and graded on site or hauled away, whichever the job needs.

  4. Graded and ready for seed
    04

    Backfill and finish

Backfilled, compacted and graded to drain, with seed and straw on bare ground.

Safety and insurance

Dig safe. Leave it stable.

  • PA 811 before we dig Pennsylvania law requires a One Call notice before digging with powered equipment. We place it before every job so buried lines are marked first.
  • Trench safety Open trenches are kept short and backfilled the same day where we can, with the work area kept clear.
  • Erosion and sediment Pennsylvania requires an erosion and sediment control plan for larger earth disturbance, and a permit for bigger sites. We tell you what applies and keep bare ground covered.
  • Fully insured Certificate of insurance on request.

What goes into your price.

Every job is priced after we see it, and the estimate is free. These are the things that move the number. You get one written price before any work starts.

  3. 03

    What is in the ground

Rock, roots, stumps and marked utility lines slow digging down.

  4. 04

    Dirt on site or hauled

Spreading spoil on your property or trucking it away.

  5. 05

    Finish

Questions

Excavation questions.

Something else? Call the shop at 717-743-5871.

Do you call PA 811?

Yes, before every dig. The law requires it, and it gets public utility lines marked. Private lines, like a line to a shed or a sprinkler system, are not marked, so tell us where yours run.

Do I need a permit?

Small jobs usually do not. Larger earth disturbance needs an erosion and sediment control plan, and bigger sites need a permit through the county conservation district. Some townships require their own grading permit. We tell you what applies.

What happens to the dirt?

It can be spread and graded on your property or hauled away. Tell us what you want when you ask for the estimate.

Can you get into a tight backyard?

Often, yes. We look at gates, slopes and the path in on the walk-through and pick the machine to match.

Can you do the tree work and the dirt work on the same job?

Yes. Clearing, stump removal, excavation and grading can be one crew and one written price.
