When you need it

When a tree needs to come down.

Dead or dying

Dead ash is the big one here. Emerald ash borer is now in nearly every Pennsylvania county, and dead ash turns brittle fast.

Trunks leaning toward the roof, limbs over the bedroom, roots lifting the foundation or driveway.

Split, leaning or hollow

Cracks at the main fork, a new lean after a storm, mushrooms at the base or a hollow trunk. We look at it and tell you straight whether it can stay.

How we do it

How a removal goes.

  1. [PROJECT PHOTO: crew walking the site]
    01

    Walk the job

We look at the tree, what it is over, the lines and the access, and decide on bucket, crane, grapple saw or climber.

  2. [PROJECT PHOTO: estimate on site]
    02

    One written price

One price for the whole job, with clean-up included. Stump grinding and wood haul-off are listed so you can choose. [CONFIRM: what is included vs. priced separately]

  3. Rigged trunk section lifted over a roof
    03

    Take it down in sections

Limbs and trunk sections are cut and lowered or lifted out, not dropped on the house, fence or lawn. Mats go down where the machines drive. [CONFIRM: ground mats]

  4. Chipper and cut logs on a driveway after a removal
    04

    Clean up

Brush chipped, wood hauled or cut to length and stacked if you want it, and the yard raked out.

Questions

Tree removal questions.

Something else? Call the shop at 717-743-5871.

How much does tree removal cost?

It depends on the size and condition of the tree, what it is over, the access and whether you want the stump ground. We walk the job and give you one written price. Estimates are free.

Is stump grinding included?

[CONFIRM: included or priced separately.] Before we grind below the ground we call PA 811 so buried lines are marked. [CONFIRM]

Can I keep the wood?

Yes. Tell us before the job and we cut it to length and leave it where you want it.

Do I need a permit?

Most removals on private property in this area do not. Street trees in Harrisburg do: the city requires a tree permit for pruning or removing street trees. We tell you what applies on the walk-through.

Will homeowners insurance pay for it?

If a tree damages a covered structure, many policies help with removal, often up to a set limit. A tree that falls without hitting anything is usually on the homeowner. Check your own policy.
